Happy Birthday to me……..

Happy Birthday to me……..

I am so happy right now that “happy” isn’t even a good word for it. I had a GREAT day. One of the better … if not the best… adult birthday of my life. And it wasn’t because of any gift I physically recieved, it was just because people remembered and were nice. Running jokes were abound about me and my (ex)crush during class today, but we both had fun with them. She is so my buddy right now. I really like her and not in the way I use to, but in a different way. I’m happy I had the crush because it taught me a lot about openning up to people. No, I didn’t get a girlfriend out of the deal but I got a friend who makes me laugh constantly. I really like her. But it wasn’t just her, it was so many people and so many nice things, and so many hugs and a lot of laughs. Not to mention a call/text from the two best girl friends in the world. Who are taking me out tonight. Today was a good birthday.

Taking Jo’s words my way….

It’s been a long time since I’ve written here and this will be a long one…

So most of my fellow Harry Potter fans have read Jo’s rant on Hollywood’s super thin obession. I myself was given pause by it. For the past 6 weeks (I’m in week 7) I have been quite obsessed with designing my own person weight loss plan. I applied for “The Biggest Loser” in fact, but alas, they didn’t want me. So decided “screw the TV show, I want to lose weight”. I didn’t need a reality show, I just had to get up and get moving. So I got up and I got moving and I had to do it without a personal trainer, a gym, home gym equipment, or even a physican to consult. I can’t afford any of these things afterall. But I couldn’t let that stop me.

In truth, I’ve never been thin enough in my own mind, Read the rest of this entry »

My Thoughts on Goblet of Fire (the movie)

I’ve honestly been waiting for “Goblet of Fire” the movie forever. Before “Half-Blood Prince” stole the position, it was my favorite book in the series. And now that’s true for the film series. Which is odd because I consider myself a purest and the film, honestly was the cliff-notes version of the book. It hit all the important points so fast it sort of startles you the first time round. There’s exactly one class (mostly to introduce the unforgivable curses). And The film is mostly the Tri-Wizard task and the Yule ball (with a few scenes here and there to tie it all together). But I still thought they did an impressive job condensing 700 plus pages into a 2 hour and a half movie. I’ve written movie scripts for my “writing for film and TV” class and I don’t know if I’d want the daunting task of condensing that MASSIVE book into a reasonably sized film.

Happy Birthday to Meeeeeeeee

It’s October the 18th – exactly one month before the release of “Goblet of Fire” the movie and MY BIRTHDAY. Yes, today, the 18th of October, is the 26th anniversary of my birth. So I sing to me “Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to meeeeeeeeeee. Happy Birthday to me.” :D

Unfortunatly, there’s nothing particualarly special happening today. My mum did get me a laptop, but it’s on-order and allegedly not due to arrive until November. So I just wanted to sing myself the birthday song. :D

I’m forgiving the Promotional Wagon of the WB

It’s been a good couple days for Ron images. And I got my assurace that Pig is in the film, so I’d like to amend my previous rant about lack of Roness. As the new images coming out seem to be more kind with the Roness and as scans come by way of folks with less of a character preferance, more Ron seems to be coming our way. So maybe I was a bit quick to judge the promo people at the WB. It seems fan preferances were actually the cause of the “flood of Emma” that seemed to be ruling things at first. Now if Bonnie could only get a few more “feature shots” (afterall, Seamus, Dean, and the twins have all appeared in a decent shot or two) I’d be happy.

And Tonner is producing Harry Potter dolls the proper way. Harry first with a promised follow up of TWO sidekicks (the boy and the girl). Okay, they cost $125 that I’m not going to spend on a 17″ doll, but Tonner got what Mattel didn’t and that’s the need for the trio to be complete :D

I’m feeling much more hopeful about this film, that adorable picture of smirking Krum in his quidditch robes and Ron with Pig have put me in an incredibly good mood.

I swear I’m seeing lightsabers

I know this is a bit of REALLY off-the-wall randomness, but does this picture of Harry in Goblet of Fire remind anyone else of Luke Skywalker with a lightsaber?

A bit annoyed now (Harry Potter)

This is a rant I just needed to get on with.

I have no problem with H/Hr shippers and am quite okay with them gushing over the occassional promotional photo of the two together. But good lord, is the Promotional wagon of the WB promoting a film called Harry and Hermione’s Goblet of Fire. Or worse, Hermione Granger and the Goblet of Fire (We already had to live through the promotional wagon that was Hermione Granger and the Prisoner of Azkaban).

I HAPPILY ship R/Hr in canon and (oddly enough) think Dan and Emma look unbelievably adorable together and admit the chemistry burns a hole in the screen, but that’s not what the film is about. Where are pics of Ron and Hermione together? And what about a decent TRIO shot, there’s been like one or two and the Ron/Harry fight doesn’t last past the first task so I don’t believe there aren’t any. I’ve seen about 25 variations of the same shot of Hermione and Viktor and the ball, I’d like to see something intresting with Viktor besides that. Please don’t tell me that’s the only shot of Vr/H in the WB’s promo material worth promoting. And I’d like to see the OTHER characters, not just Harry and Hermione, especially HERMIONE. Someone who’s a stranger to HP would think this was the Harry and Hermoine movie judging by promotional material like the movie calendars. There’s more ‘different’ shots of Hermione than there are any other GoF non-Harry character. And what about the best mates, in what little there’s been of them together, we’ve had Harry and Ron in dress robes and very little else with them together by comparrison to Hermione/Harry. Plenty of Harry is expected (hero and all) but Hermione is just a sidekick she should not get better treatment than the other sidekick (Ron) because of her gender and a favoritisim for how Dan and Emma look in a picture. It misrepresent the core of the movie. I *like* Emma Watson (and Rupert and Dan) but the WB’s promotional favoritisim to Emma Watson over Rupert Grint SUCKS!!!!

I know I’ve talked about being overspoiled for the movie and not wanting to be, but the promotional material is out there and the problem I have with it is that by comparrison everything seems off-balanced. Hermione is not equal to Harry in the story, she’s one of the two PRIMARY best freinds and still, in the end, just a supporting character.

Sorry, had to get that off my chest.

Corpse Bride

I went to see Corpse Bride on Saturday and if you enjoy Tim Burton in general and loved ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ (the movie me and my friend call it’s ‘distant cousin’) then you’ll love this.

Even though this time the stop animation was helped along with a bit of CGI (or so I’ve read) there’s a certain magic to this artform of visual storytelling. It’s sort of like a living ‘toy story’ as it were, if only because unlike CGI the characters are really there. They exsist as physical things and are magically brought to life by film. And unlike puppets, there’s no strings. And the story (despite being about a dead world basically rising on a living one) is cute and funny. Very much enough mixture of enough light and dark to make it a classic fairy tale type story (and it’s, in fact, based on a Russian folk tale or something). It was really really a fun movie.

Of course the Harry Potter Trailer was attached (and I DIDN’T see the movie just because of the trailer being attached). It was very cool seeing it on the BIG SCREEN. And I was so happy people clapped after the trailer. I’ve never seen people CLAP for a trailer. :)

Missing the Surprise

I’m now wondering if I should swear off trailers, mostly in the case of Harry Potter. When I think about it, they’re giving away a bloody awful lot in the Harry Potter trailers now. I mean I saw one trailer for Stone before the film came out in the theater and I think I was able to appreciate the complete film as a film much better for it. I also only saw the Narnia trailer on TV and it was brilliant, just enough of a teaser to keep me going. But as for the Potter films, I seem to be knowing more and more going in and I can’t decide if that’s good or bad. And I know, I read the book, I know the beginning, middle, and end. And knew it long before the first Harry Potter movie even hit the theaters. And yet, I’d rather NOT pick apart things before I see the ‘whole picture’ as it was re-imagined. As much as the films are based on the books, the changes have also made them a very distinct and a bit seperate world from the books. Despite knowing not only what will happen in GoF, but the next two years in the characters lives. I wonder, maybe, if I should just swear not to look at a trailer for OotP (I mean I’m too throughly spoiled on Goblet the film for my own good). But I’m honestly too hooked in the life of the internet Harry Potter fandom to avoid it. And between running Weasley Network and Brave (and the horribly neglected Wicked Witches) I feel obligated to keep up with the big sites, you know, especially in the case of the latest news on Weasley Network, which has grown to monster size somehow (Brave is a bit more manageable as I’m following only one character/actor and not 9). Can I be movie-spoiler free for film five? Proably not. Maybe if I decide to banish all movie content from my sites, but wouldn’t do that!

The Goblet of Fire Trailer

Well, I have to start off this journal with something right?

Well I saw the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire trailer yesterday (the US one apparently) and then this international trailer deal appears on the net which apparently has more footage. That took another few hours download (I HATE dial-up). But Anyway…

What I thought of the trailer
