Coming Home
Sophia:
I don't blame you dad. You weren't there when mom exploded and after that
it got... weird for us, as a family. You're here now, that's what matters.
Bill: And I'll always be here, you remember that. Sophia: This isn't just because Dre and I broke up, is it? Bill: No, I'm not your mom. I don't believe Dre made you something you aren't. It doesn't matter to me if you're dating Dre or some other girl, you're my daughter and I love you and I want you to come home. Sophia: I love you too dad, but I can't come home. Because nothing's changed. Mom doesn't feel the way you do and I can't be in that house with her thinking this is some kind of phase I'm growing out of simply because I'm not dating anyone at the moment. |
Bill:
The only way she can learn to think in any different is if you come home.
Sophia: She's disgusted by me dad. I could see it in her eyes when I left home. With or without Dre in my life, I can't be around her knowing she feels that way. She can't accept who I am, I know that, so it's better for us all if I just stay away. Ellis: So you gonna stay here? Sophia: Not for long, just until I can get an apartment and this new job. I mean, Mrs. Carr and I seem to vibe pretty well so I don't see why she wouldn't hire me. |
Bill:
Sophia, you have to talk to your mom sometime. Sophia: She doesn't love me the way she use to. I can't change that. It's enough that you still love me. Bill: Sweetie, whatever you think of your mother, whatever you think has changed between you, know that she could never really stop loving you. Sophia: I'll believe that when I hear it from her. Dad, I'll always love her. But if I learned anything through my camp experience, it's that I can't put satisfying other people before myself if it's going to do harm to my inner peace. This doesn't mean I don't understand her feelings on the issues, but I can't change her anymore than she can change me. And I can't change Dre either and I can't change what she did and I can't forgive her, so I have to think about me and I have to move forward. I just got to lock it up in the past and move on the next step. |
Bill:
Fine, it's you life. I'm just happy that we're back on track. Now I have
to get to work. You want to go out to lunch? Talk some more. Sophia: Sure. I've missed talking to you. Bill: Okay, I'll come pick you up here at 12:30 Sophia: Okay. |
Bill:
Ellis?Ellis: I'm going to stick around a little while. Bill: Okay (Bill leaves) |
