CHAPTER 3

After that first kiss, things with Dre seemed great. Spending time alone together was enough. But as time passed, Sophia realized embracing her feelings for Dre was only the first step, there was still the problem of explaining things to her nearest and dearest (her brother, her parents, Kylie). In her head, things were simple enough, 'I'm in love'. But when it came to actually speaking to her family, it didn't feel as simple. She practiced avoidance with Kylie, Sophia had managed to dodge her calls since she 'disappeared' from their double date. Ellis was out of town and when he called it just didn't come up. And as for her parents, she was unable to figure out how to start the conversation, so she didn't.

And she knew Dre was feeling insecure because Carmen had been big on secrets. She had begun to hate the name 'Carmen'. It was like this evil cloud hanging over everything they were trying to build together.

Andrea: You ever going to tell your family about us?

Sophia: I don't know.

Andrea: Are you embarrassed?

Sophia: I'm not embarrassed I just feel like we're good right now, me and you, me and my family, me and my brother, and I just don't want to rock the boat too much.
