Sophia’s Story
CHAPTER 4
It had been a month since Sophia move in with Andrea, and the first time since then she saw her brother face to face. And though he knew she moved out, mom had avoided disclosing the actual story and so had Sophia when she called to give him her new number. They met at the familiar fast food place, and Sophia finally explained everything that had happened since he left. Andrea, Kylie, mom, all of it.
Ellis: You could have called and told me about this.
Sophia: After Kylie's reaction and mom's, I didn't want to step on another bomb.
Ellis: I'm your brother. I love you and if Andrea makes you happy, I'm cool with it.
Sophia: Really?
Ellis: Of course.
Sophia: I think she's the one Ellis, that amazing person I've been waiting for.
Ellis: Listen, I know you're my big sis, but this is not only the first girl you ever dated, it's the first person you've ever been really serious about and I have to be honest, you're moving a little fast. I mean, you're living together and you barely know each other.
Sophia: I know enough, I mean we love each other. That's all I need to know. Don't you believe in love at first sight?
Ellis: No, I think a few people got lucky and called it that. I'm not critizing your relationship because it's with a girl, I'm just trying to warn you against getting too caught up.
Sophia: I can handle my relationship, okay.
Sophia: Have you talked to dad?
Ellis: About you? No, he's pretty good at avoiding the issue. You should call him. I think he wants to talk to you, he just doesn't know where to start, especially considering how mom feels.
Sophia: Last time I called, mom answered the phone. I just hung up. It still hurts that she didn't love me enough to accept my relationship, to accept me.
Ellis: Well, you still got your baby brother.
