Sophia’s Story
But Sophia hadn't been entirely truthful with her brother. Things had started out okay with Dre, but living together hadn't gone as smoothly as Sophia anticipated (for example, the events in The Flying Car adventure occured during one of their arguments, which is why Sophia was open to taking the odd job from Scully). Sophia had discovered Dre was extremely possesive and the occassional mention of the dreaded name (Carmen) had turned into something that happened nearly everyday. Sophia hadn't realized how badly that relationship had affected her until they lived together.
Andrea: Where you been?
Sophia: Ellis was in town, he called, we went out to eat.
Andrea: You sure you weren't out with Ken.
Sophia: I don't go out with Mr. Carson, I work for him. And if you mention the name Carmen, I will go off.
Andrea: It wouldn't have hurt you to call.
Sophia: Why do you have to know where I am every second? I didn't have to check in with my mother as much I have to check in with you.
Andrea: So I'm worse than your mom now?
Sophia: No, it's just. How many times do I have to say 'I love you' before you believe it, before you trust me, before you stop seeing Carmen in me? Are you still in love with her?
Andrea: Of course not.
Sophia: Then make me believe it, stop saying her name. And trust me, judge me on what I do, not what she did.
Andrea: I'm sorry, okay, I'm sorry.
Sophia: You're always sorry, you've been sorry so many times. When is it going to stop?
Andrea: I love you, okay, you, not Carmen.
Sophia: And I love you. I'm not waiting for the right guy to come along. I'm not even waiting for another woman. I just love you.
(Sophia felt like she had explained this a million times and even as they embraced she felt like she would have to explain it a million times more. And she didn't know what to do to get Dre to believe in her. Had she just been hurt too badly by Carmen? Would trust ever come?)
