(A few minutes later…)
Sophia: Why don’t you like me?
Erika: Cause you’re weird.
Sophia: What’s weird about me?
Erika: You know. You don’t like men at all. You’d probably be happy if my dad never came back again, cause then you could have mom all to yourself.
Sophia: Well, let me clear up a few things for you. One, I have nothing against men. There are two very important men in my life. My father, I adored growing up. And my brother, he’s my best friend.
Erika: That’s different.
Sophia: Yes, it is different for me. Because that special feeling, that feeling your mom has for your dad, for me it will never happen with a man. You ever had a crush Erika?
Erika: I guess, there’s this one guy that whenever he’s around I get butterflies. He’s so cute.
Sophia: What about your friend Kenny?
Erika: Ewww, he’s like my brother.
Sophia: But if something were to happen to him, if you needed him, if he needed you, you’d be there for each other because you love each other and you’re friends right?
Erika: Yeah.
Sophia: Well, it’s the same way for me. I can have a woman who’s my friend just like you can have a boy who’s your friend.
Erika: Do you have those special feelings for that lady you went on that date with?
Sophia: Erika, I do believe that’s my business. But doesn’t the fact that I’m dating make you feel a little bit better?
Erika: I guess, but I still think it’s weird how you’re close with mom. And then there’s King and Me’chelle and Maniya sometimes too. They act like you’re the other mommy, but they don’t need another mommy, they need daddy.
