Sophia: And I want them to have their daddy. I adore you kids, but I can’t be your daddy and I’d never try to be. But most days Dawn is managing this house alone and I just–
Erika: She’s not alone!! She has me and Shanice and Francisco…
Sophia: And the rest of her children. She loves you dearly Erika, but all of you are her babies and she wants to take care of you not burden with taking care of each other.
Erika: And you just want to be her friend for that kind of stuff? And help her out with things. That’s all?
Sophia: Yes.
(Erika turned away from Sophia and thought about it a bit.)
Erika: Then I guess that’s okay, I guess. I’m not sure.
Sophia: Thank you.
Erika: This doesn’t mean I like you.
Sophia: Fair enough.
(And for the moment, it was enough. Sophia had finally made peace with young Erika.)
