Erika then walked away from Shawn, giving what she said a chance to sink in.
Erika: I hope so too. Kenny, Tina.
Tina & Kenny: Yeah.
Erika: Thanks for being real friends. You know, this has been a really weird year. First my mom and Sophia, which I’ve recently realized I can’t do anything about. Then Shawn coming into our lives. I just feel totally different then I did at the beginning of the school year.
Kenny: You know what we should do?
Erika: What?
Kenny: Go climb a tree or something. Go back a little and enjoy something simple, enjoy being a kid. It seems like the teenage part is creeping up on us and I’d just liked to enjoy being a kid a little bit longer.
Erika: I’d like that.
(Then she smiled at him and his heart fluttered a bit at the idea that he was the one to make her smile.)
