1.18: The Beginning of Summer

Mie: I bet if you asked the other kids, they’d say the same thing. They love Sophia and Dawn and the only thing they see with them together is friendship.

(Feeling they were now attacking Mrs. Carr’s fitness as a parent and feeling this was unfair, Shanice stepped up)
Shanice: I love my dad and I’ll always love him, but I don’t know if he was the best husband. That’s not what he was to me. To me he’ll continue to be the best dad ever. I understand why they’re getting a divorce—
(Crowd mumbles and questions: “Divorce?”)
Shanice: but I love Dawn. She’s been my mother for most of my life. She deserves happiness wherever she finds it and that’s with Sophia.

(Erika felt she should speak up too.)
Erika: I love my daddy too and I hate that my mom’s getting a divorce from my dad. I’m not even sure if I like Sophia, but I know my little brothers and sisters do. Even I can tell you you’re making a big mistake if you’re taking your kids away from Kelley Kids Kare. Whatever my reasons for not liking Sophia, I can tell you that you I’ve seen her with most of your kids and she’s good at her job. All the kids love her.

Erika: And my mom does too. I guess they’re good together in a lot of ways, even if I don’t like it. In fact, I think that’s what scares me the most.

Erika: But as for your kids, this is the beginning of elementary school and middle school and high school. It’s bigger than the few years before kindergarten. When I was in my mom’s Day Care, I made friends with Kenny and he’s still my friend today. If you take your kids away from Kelley Kids Kare because of something stupid, you’ll be taking away there friends, friends who could last through maybe the rest of their lives.
