1.11: Valentines

(And elsewhere on Kelley Avenue, Sophia was getting closer to her new girlfriend. They’d had a good couple weeks together and since Sophia got a day off from work, they decided to spend the day hanging out.)

Sophia: Today has been really fun.

Ashley: Yeah it was. I’m so glad you got the day off.

Sophia: More like Dawn forced me to take the day off. She’s so glad Erika and I made peace, she just wanted to give me a day to myself. And she thinks you’re great.

Ashley: Or I make things safe.

Sophia: What do you mean?

Ashley: Nothing.

Sophia: Want some coffee or tea or something?

Ashley: Yeah, I’ll take some tea.

(Thirty minutes later…)

Sophia: …so King, finally, finally pushes himself up and starts rocking, I mean he doesn’t crawl but it’s like this big thing. Dawn and I were so excited. And the other day Maniya said ‘Sophia’ for the first time. All she use to say was ‘phia’, you know ‘phia this, phia that’ and then sudden ‘Sophia can I have….’ I was so shocked and happy, it’s kind of silly but…

Ashley: Sophia.

Sophia: What?

Ashley: You do realize those aren’t your kids, right?

Sophia: Of course I do. I just adore them. I’m so glad Dawn lets me be a part of there life as much she does.

Ashley: But, the way you talk about them, it’s like you’re Dawn’s… partner. Domestic-like-partner.

Sophia: You sound like her daughter.

Ashley: You know, kids sense things and maybe she wasn’t to far off.

Sophia: Dawn’s married, okay.

Ashley: So it’s safer for the both of you if you’re dating someone.

Sophia: We’re not like that.

Ashley: So you both claim, but you can’t stop talking about her. And when you’re together, there’s some like unresolved tension between you. I mean it’s in the air, I try to ignore it but I can’t.
