1.14: Family Ties
(A minute or two later, the Carr sisters were leaving the school together.)
Shanice: Erika, you know better. If you wanted to help him, you should have helped him study.
Erika: I did, he said it wasn’t working and he’s my boyfriend.
Shanice: You don’t know something you know is wrong for a boyfriend. You don’t even do something you know is wrong for a husband. Deep down you knew that.
Erika: I guess I did. Mom was afraid of this happening.
Shanice: I thought you said she didn’t know about Shawn.
Erika: I said she didn’t know he was my boyfriend. She didn’t, in fact she didn’t even want him to be my friend. I wasn’t even suppose to be hanging out with him.
Shanice: How did I not know about all this?
Erika: You haven’t been paying much attention to me.
Shanice: I’m sorry about that sis.
Erika: It’s okay. I’m glad you’re paying attention now.
Shanice: So, why don’t you tell me everything there is to know about this Shawn boy.
Erika: Why?
Shanice: So I can understand why you wanted a boy like him to be your first boyfriend.
Erika: Okay, but I don’t understand it myself. It all started at Christmas when Shawn’s dad brought him home. Shawn’s mom had died and….
(And all the way home Erika told Shanice the story of her and Shawn.)
