1.15: Lina’s Secret
Meanwhile. in another part of Kelley Ave….

Harold: Hey Lina.
Lina: Hey, I guess you want answers about that guy.
Harold: I guess it’s your mom’s business.
Lina: No, it’s mine. Eddie is Rocky’s father, as he said. And before you interrupt, no my mother didn’t sleep with him.

Harold: Well then how–
Lina: I slept with him.
Harold: But I thought–
Lina: That I was some pure little angel. That what Nelson thinks too, that I’m different, special, one of the one ‘good ones’. Wouldn’t he be surprised to find out his ‘good one’ got knocked up at 13 by a 15 year old troublemaker.
Harold: Troublemaker?
Lina: Oh yeah, wouldn’t have imagined it as he was a clean cut kid from a good family. He was a bit of a secret rebel, his trouble making ignored by his parents. I found him fascinating, his life seemed so limitless. And when I got pregnant, he acted like he didn’t know me. Mom decided to just let it go, we would raise the baby, as my brother. So she got to bring home a daughter who was still a good little girl and a sob story about a man who left her with a baby boy.
Harold: I thought it was all kind of weird, you staying away like that when you were only suppose to be gone for the summer. It was a bad enough summer without my home girl next door, it was hard to have a whole school year without you. (sigh) Why the whole cover up? You aren’t the first teenage girl to get pregnant.
Lina: My mom didn’t want me to have the burden of motherhood before I was ready. Technically speaking, he is her son. She adopted him the day he was born.
Harold: Still, the lie is going to come out one day and Rocky’s gonna know and Kirk’s gonna know.
Lina: And Nelson’s going to break up with me.
Harold: Kirk loves you.
Lina: Only because he believes something about me that isn’t true, that good girl image.
Harold: One mistake at 13 doesn’t change the fact you are one of the good ones. A guy would have to be an idiot not to know that.
Lina: Thanks, you’re sweet when you want to be. Will you keep the secret?
Harold: As long as you need me to.
Lina: Thanks.

(They embraced just as Nelson Kirk returned home from practice.)
Kirk: (jokingly) Hey, get your hands off my girlfriend.
