1.2: Back to School
Down in the Carr kitchen, it was the usual crazy morning as Mrs. Carr got her children out the door for school. Mark and Mellissa had gotten up early and eaten with Deven and Ian. Mrs. Carr had given them there juice when she came down. Francisco had just finished eating and Shanice and Erika were finishing up whatever was left in their cereal bowls.
Francisco: Why isn’t dad up?
Mrs. Carr: I let him sleep. Maniya kept him up half the night crying. She’s staying home with him, she’s sick.
Francisco: You sure you should do that. I mean he’s never had her sick.
Mrs. Carr: Lil Biscuit, he’s her daddy.
Francisco: ‘Lil Biscuit’? You haven’t called me that since I was 12.
(Deven and Ian arrived downstairs.)
Mrs. Carr watched them leave still finding it hard to believe Deven and Ian were in High school. Where had the years gone?
