1.7: The Lost Son

Sophia: Ellis and dad try to tell me she doesn’t hate me, but I know she does. I couldn’t stand to spend the holiday with her looking at me and loathing everything I am.
Mrs. Carr: She can’t loathe you, she’s your mother, I’m sure she loves you.

Sophia: Not all mothers are as wonderful as you are. I’ll just have a happy little Christmas alone in my apartment.
Mrs. Carr: No you won’t, I won’t let you. You’ll spend Christmas with us.
Sophia: Isn’t your husband coming home?
Mrs. Carr: No, his plans changed. He…um…called last week and said he didn’t think he’d be home for the holidays.

Mrs. Carr: But even if he was coming home, there would be still be room for you, you’re family. So you come over Christmas Eve and stay. That is if you don’t mind sleeping on the couch.
Sophia: I don’t mind, but I thought we were avoiding the overnight situation.
Mrs. Carr: Forget all that, Christmas is special. On Christmas you should be with family. And your second best family is good enough, right?
Sophia: You’re not second best.
