Mrs. Carr: It’s okay, obviously Maria wants clarity on our relationship and I’m happy to offer it. Have you seen your daughter with children? My kids love her. If anything, she’ll probably make their holiday better.
And to tell you the truth, she’ll make my holiday better, too. I love your daughter. I love the way she treats my kids, I love having her as a friend, I love working with her. There are a million things I love about her. I even love that she’s a lesbian. It doesn’t change everything else I love about her, so why not love her for it?
Maria: And how does your husband feel about this love you feel for my daughter?
Mrs. Carr: Being married doesn’t stop me from loving my friend for being my friend.
Maria: And my lack of approval about the way Sophia chooses to live, doesn’t change the fact I love her. She’s my daughter, of course I love her, but I can’t–
Mrs. Carr: Why can’t you? She’s your child and you love her? Does anything else really matter?
