1.7: The Lost Son
(Mrs. Stevens arrived at the food court, where her husband was waiting. He had already bought a couple of sodas for them.)

Mrs. Stevens: What’s going on honey?
Mr. Stevens: We need to talk, about Kira.
Mrs. Stevens: Why are you bringing her up? we agreed.
Mr. Stevens: I know what we agreed, but the situation has changed, drastically. See Kira was ill.
Mrs. Stevens: That’s sad, but isn’t she married?
Mr. Stevens: Yes, she got married.
Mrs. Stevens: Then isn’t this her husband’s concern?
Mr. Steven: Her illness was his burden, but my son … well he’s mine.
Mrs. Stevens: This is about Shawn? Do they want us to take him? For how long?
Mr. Stevens: Forever.

Mrs. Stevens: What? That’s impossible. Stacy doesn’t even know she has a brother. We can’t take him, she’s his mother, she shouldn’t want to give him–
Mr. Stevens: She’s dead.
Mrs. Stevens: What?
Mr. Stevens: Kira’s dead. And Shawn needs me.
Mrs. Stevens: What about his step-father? Doesn’t he want him?
Mr. Stevens: It doesn’t matter, I’m his father and his mother is gone. He needs me.
Mrs. Stevens: This is crazy, we had it covered up so well. Stacy didn’t know, my parents didn’t know, your parents didn’t know.
Mr. Stevens: And we’ll have to tell them all, because Shawn is coming home with me tomorrow.

Mrs. Stevens: I can’t believe after all we went through to hide this mistake, you have to bring it home.
Mr. Stevens: Not it, him, Shawn, my son, my only son.
Mrs. Stevens: I guess that means we have to talk to Stacy tonight.
Mr. Stevens: Yes, we do. She’s 16, she’s not some little baby we have to coddle, she can handle the truth.
