1.8: The New Year
(New Years Eve finally came and that evening found Sophia and Mrs. Carr setting up the living room for Francisco’s party. Mark, Mellissa, and Maniya sat around the TV enjoying a video. Sophia had baked most of the goodies for the party and promised the kids extra special cupcakes if they were quiet while she and Mrs. Carr set up for the party.)
(After a lot of in decission about how to approach the conversation they were avoiding, Mrs. Carr decided just to face it.)
Mrs. Carr: The fact is Sophia, you’re a young woman, very young.
Sophia: I’m not that young.
Mrs. Carr: Yes you are. You’re young enough for me to say, you haven’t lived really. Not enough to know what you really want. You got involved with Dre and that didn’t work out and now this is going on.
Sophia: And what is this?
Mrs. Carr: Exactly what we called it before, nesting. Both of us doing something because it’s comfortable. But you need to get out there, experience things, date a little while. I’m a married lady with several children. You’re a young beautiful woman who should be out there exploring and looking for someone who wants to build a life with you. You shouldn’t be jumping into a ready made family at your age.
Sophia: Maybe I want the family.
