1.8: The New Year

Mrs. Carr: And you’ll have one, one day, your own family. There’s nothing stopping you from having everything with the right person. But I’m married Sophia and I’m not going to let this to become some kind of affair. You’re a special person and you deserve more than being the other woman. And it’s not just me that you’re special too, you’re too important to the kids for me to let this go too far. So I want a promise from you for the new year.
Sophia: What’s the promise?
Mrs. Carr: That you’ll look for her.
Sophia: For who?
Mrs. Carr: The one you really belong with.
Sophia: Dawn I think I–
Mrs. Carr: Sophia, please.

Sophia: You just don’t understand. I wouldn’t even know where to begin. There’s been Dre and that’s it. What am I suppose to do, randomly hit on women on the street?
Mrs. Carr: Your making excuses. You and Dre aren’t the only two lesbians on the planet. I want you to be happy Sophia, really happy and complete.
Sophia: I am happy.

Mrs. Carr: No, you’re settling for, whatever it is we have, because it’s the easiest thing to do. Because putting yourself out there is hard and you’re risking heartbreak again. But you have to do it.
Sophia: Okay, I’ll try.
Mrs. Carr: There is no try, only do or do not.
Sophia: Yoda
(They shared a soft laugh)
Mrs. Carr: Come on, we’ll make it our shared New Year resolution to find your true love, okay?
Sophia: Okay.
