(At the River house, Mie was preparing to go to to Mick’s party. She’d just picked out her dress and called Stephany to verify when they were going to meet.)
Stephany: (on phone) Thanks for talking Mick into this party. I might never have gotten a date with him if you hadn’t. That boy’s so hard to read. Deven’s simple, drop a few hints and he picks them up.
Mie: He is hard to read, I thought once that he… well I thought that. Did I mention I’m happy for you.
Stephany: What did you think?
Mie: I’m getting dressed for Mick’s party in a minute.
Mr. River: Party?
Mie: I’m going with Stephany and mom said it’s okay.
Mr. River: Older boys are going to be at this party?
Mie: Yes, and older girls. And my classmates.
Mr. River: And Harold Tompson.
