1.3: The Rumor
Mie: Dad, I’ve been hanging out with Harold Tompson and most of the people at this party for nearly a month. I see them in school everyday, I eat lunch with them, some of them I’ve walked home with occasionally. Last weekend Stephany and I went shopping with Karen and Lina. These people are my friends. And Mick, he’s my… my partner and it’s allowed me to be his friend. And he’s a really good friend. I just want to celebrate his birthday with him.
Mr. River: School is a controlled environment with plenty of supervision. This party will not have that supervision. And I don’t trust Harold Tompson. So you’re not going and I’m telling your mother that.
Stephany: (on phone) I heard.
Mie: I so hate him when he gets like this.
Stephany: Find a way to sneak out. You cannot miss this party. It’s our first major High school party.
Mie: I can’t sneak out. My parents trust me, I can’t break their trust.
Stephany: Okay then, see you in school on Monday.
(They hang up)
