(Mie went downstairs to reason with her father and found him talking with her mother. She stopped to listen to them.)
Mrs. River: Honey, he’s a nice boy. I’ve watched him around school, with our daughter. Just let her go to her friend’s birthday party.
Mr. River: You know that family, just like I do. Nothing good can come from our child associating with them.
Mie: *thinking* You’re never going to be fair about him, are you dad?
(Without them seeing or hearing her, she returned to her room. She’d made a decission.)
