1.3: The Rumor
(Later that night, Mrs. Carr decided to make a call to her friend.)
Sophia: Hello
Mrs. Carr: Hello Sophia.
Sophia: Dawn?
Mrs. Carr: You sound surprised.
Sophia: I didn’t know you had my number.
Mrs. Carr: You filled out an application for work.
Sophia: Oh yeah, so what’s up?
Mrs. Carr: I just wanted to tell you Raymond will be bringing Nicole back on Monday, so lets try to avoid showing him anything, but our best face that day.
Sophia: No problem. I’m really sorry about what happened before.
Mrs. Carr: I know.
Sophia: Listen, Francisco did have a conversation about going shopping, for the new babies, for the nursery.
Mrs. Carr: You want to go shopping with my son?
Sophia: Of course not, I want to go shopping with you. Francisco volunteered to handle the kids while we go.
Mrs. Carr: I don’t know. I’d feel bad leaving him with all of them when I don’t have to.
Sophia: Let him do this for you.
Mrs. Carr: Okay, we’ll talk about it on Monday. Good-bye Sophia….oh and thank you for the evening of bedrest despite how it turned out.
Sophia: No problem. Good-bye.
(Despite the mess that happened, Mrs. Carr felt extremely lucky to have Sophia in her life. She didn’t know the last time she’d really connected with someone like this. She’d sort of become a robot, operating by instinct and habit. But having Sophia around as a friend, it made her feel like a whole person again. So she was looking forward to shopping. Shopping with a friend, when was the last time she did that? She couldn’t even remember.)
