1.5: Halloween

(Mie had walked up on the tail end of the conversation, if she had heard her father conceding just a little she might have held back. But all she heard was his refusal and that upset her. As far as she was concerned, Mick had proven himself.)

Mr. River: I explained to you, school is a controlled environment and any party with Harold Tompson…

Mie: Will suddenly make me into someone I’m not?

Mr. River: Obviously, this new circle of friends has already turned you into someone you’re not. Or you wouldn’t be talking to me like this.

Mie: You’re not being fair. After all that Mick’s done, you still don’t trust him. He came and helped out today. He didn’t have to do that! He did it because he cares about what you think of him.

Mr. River: And I appreciate it.

Mie: No you don’t, or you wouldn’t still be doing this. Why can’t I go out with him?

Mr. River: I’m looking out for your best interest.

Mie: No, you’re trying to control me and I’m sick of it. Mick is more than a friend, he’s my boyfriend, we’ve already been dating and we’re going to keep seeing each other even if you don’t like it.

Mr. River: Is this true? You’ve been sneaking around with my daughter.

Mick: Yes sir, I wanted to tell you but–

Mr. River: I thought maybe you were different from your brother, but you’re not are you?
