The Family
The Parents in the Carr household are Dawn Carr, who manages a day care center, and Francisco Carr, a truck driver. Well, in the house isn’t exactly right in Francisco Sr.’s case. He owns a trucking company and uses it as an excuse to stay away from home. And he’s away a lot.
Dawn and Francisco had a rocky marriage from the beginning. They first met when they were young kids who were simply friends in a larger group of kids. Between Middle School and High School that group of friends dissolved and they went on with their lives. As adults they met again and at the time Francisco was married to another young woman, Daria Taylor, and had adopted her little girl, Shanice Taylor (who became Shanice Carr). Just to clear up any confussion about Shanice, I’ll point out Francisco was black and Daria and her daughter, Shanice, were white, so the first time Dawn saw them together it was obvious the child with the blond hair and blue eyes wasn’t his – still their was a marriage and Dawn knew she shouldn’t have gotten involved with him. But when Dawn connected with Francisco again after so many years, it was easy to distance herself from the marriage. She got pregnant, but she was alone the New Years Day she gave birth to Fransico Carr Jr. Francisco was almost two years old when she had an accidental confrontation with Francisco Sr. at the zoo. After a confrontation with him (that led to a confrontation with his wife), Francisco said he would be there for his son. Francisco Sr. came to see Dawn and little Francisco soon after and very soon one thing led to another and an attempt to forge a relationship between father and son led to an affair and another pregnancy. This time Dawn had twins, Deven and Ian. Deven and Ian caused Francisco Sr. to re-evaluate his priorities, he left his wife for the mother of his 3 sons.
Francisco continued to see his adopted daughter through court arranged visitation, but she resented his new family. Not only had they stolen the only father she ever truly had, her mother had fallen apart since the divorce. She had problems before the marraige ended that only got worse after the divorce. When her mother passed away, Shanice’s father (Francisco Sr.) took her into his new family, but she forever blamed Dawn for her what happened to her mother. It didn’t help that less than two years after the twins, Dawn had gotten pregnant again and gave birth to a daughter, Erika Whitley. This meant Shanice was no longer her father’s only little girl.
After so much saddness, the Carrs felt a move and a new beginning was in order. The whole family needed to start over and it was then they all moved to Kelley Avenue, the nice quiet neighborhood where they were to raise their kids. But just as strongly as Shanice blamed Dawn for her mother’s death, Francisco Sr. blamed himself and that’s why he so often is away from home. Francisco Jr. began to see himself as the man of the house. He helps out his mother and looks out for his younger siblings.
The marriage produced 5 more children though. Erika was eight when Dawn had another set of twins, Mark and Melissa. Two years later Maniya came along. And less than two years after Maniya, Dawn gave birth to another set of twins, King and Me’chelle. |
