Black?

Our world has always been black

But not this dusty black.

The dust they made of the dream

That you shared with me in our five years as one.

Your eyes have always been dark

But not this murky dark

Mucked with sadness of knowing

the enemy did not even consider your holy land sacred.

Your soul has always been shadowed

But never bonded with the dark.

Like it has now that you have been stripped

of that sanctuary which you built so cautiously for yourself.

Let me lead you back into the light;

Return our world back to that warm gray we shared;

Return the shimmer of light to those dark eyes;

Return your soul to the comforting shadows.

For what seems to have been destroyed still burns brightly inside us.
