1.4: Secrets

Harold: You’re to nervous when you hold her. You just need to be calm. She’ll respond to it.
Mick: How do you know all this?
Harold: Who do you think soothed you when Mom and dad were arguing.
Mick: You were barely two when I was born.
Harold: And? What that have to do with Mom and Dad arguing? If you were laying down, I’d pat your back. If you were in your swing, I’d swing it real gentle. I was glad when you started crawling, because when mom and dad got to loud, we could get away from it. We’d go into a closet and I’d just hold you.
Mick: But there was no one to hold you.
Harold: It was enough to do the holding.
Mick: You were a good big brother.
Harold: I was so scared the first time mom left me home with you. I was little, but you were so much smaller and almost helpless. But you were my brother and if I didn’t keep it together, I knew no one else would.
Mick: Thanks for being there for me Harold.
(It was at times like this, Mick really remembered why he admired and loved his brother.)

Harold: Enough with this sappy stuff. Now take the baby, and don’t be nervous.
Mick: Hey Stella. (she begins to whine) Shh, shh.
Harold: Just be calm.
