(At that moment, Erika and her friends showed up. They’d all stayed late after school for choir practice. Kenny was actually there to pick up his brother. Kenny’s mother and father were going out for their anniversary dinner that evening and had asked Tina’s mother to watch him and his brother after school. Tina’s mother had told Kenny to pick up his brother after choir practice, so Tina and Erika tagged along.)
(Under normal circumstances, Mrs. Carr wouldn’t have a problem with him going to Kenny, but she wasn’t sure if she wanted him crossing the path of the two women. She didn’t know ‘Sophia’s friend’ and she certainly didn’t trust her.)
