1.4: Secrets

(It was quite late when the Carr twins arrived. Mrs. Carr had a healthy little boy and little girl. A part of her hoped for two girls since she had identical boy twins and boy/girl twins. But there was certainly no disappointment upon there arrivial. Sophia was in tears as she watched them come into the world. She’d told her friend that she’d never seen anything so beautiful.)

(They didn’t have names yet. There hospital bracelets simply said ‘baby girl Carr’ and ‘baby boy Carr’)

Sophia: They’re so perfect.

Mrs. Carr: Yeah, they are. You know, this is the first time I had twins without trouble. When I had Deven and Ian, they had to be rushed to the NICU and they were both so tiny. *exhales* It was just scary. Then when I had Mark and Mellissa, Mellissa nearly didn’t make it. Mark was twice her size and healthy. I was happy he was okay but I didn’t want to lose little Mellissa. She was in the hospital for over a month.

Sophia: That had to be hard on you. Especially without your husband around.

Mrs. Carr: He called all the time about her, but I wanted him home and he just… when he finally did see her she was perfectly healthy, so he never felt it like I did. He never saw this tiny little infant struggling for her life, fighting so hard. I guess that’s why she’s such a strong little girl now, she had to fight so hard, so early in life.

Sophia: And she’ll be a strong, powerful woman, just like her mother.

Mrs. Carr: You’re sweet. You know this little boy looks just like Mellissa. A boy Mellissa.

Sophia: I think he looks just like you. Now this little girl looks just like a little Erika.

Mrs. Carr: Erika looks like her daddy. So does Mark. I still have no idea what to name them.

Sophia: I’ve always liked Michelle, for a girl. That’s what I was going to name my daughter, if I ever. But I won’t so you can use it.

Mrs. Carr: You don’t know that, I won’t take your baby’s name.
